Most educational programs, even those with solid art programs, portray art as a reprieve from homework and arithmetic. Frivolous and fun, art is a way to decorate the realities of learning, growing up and living. But not this program. “Hi Art!”…

cultural insight..

these are pictures of the AINU people.. which are said to be the indigenous people of Japan.. these natives originated from several different islands Sakhalin island near the mouth of the Amur river, Kurile islands, southern Kamchatka, and Hokkaido, what is known today as the northern islands of Japan.  the Ainu were very skilled fishermen, hunters, carvers, potters, dancers and much more. they believe, (as do i) that in the natural world everything represents a spirit or has a spiritual essence, fires, mountains, trees, valleys, the ocean, animals, plants and even tools and clothes they made had spirits. They were well known for their bear ceremony, a very important part of their religious rituals. women were given alot of freedom up until they were married, some even warriors and hunters. AINU women were also know for their face tattoo, which has a deeper story then jus that but i’ll have to get to yah’ll on that one..

personally i love their textiles and patterns, they quite possibly could be a distance ancestors of mine, who knows..

The Codex Zouche-Nuttall’s survival is remarkable and may be due to its unusual history. It’s very likely that it first left Mexico as part of a shipment from Cortés to the king of Spain, Carlos V.  This is the first time it has returned to the Americas in almost five hundred years.
